Even in Roman times, the Schöckel in Graz’s backyard was considered a magical and legendary place in the region. That is why archaeologists from the Department of the Classics at the University of Graz have been carrying out excavation work on the mountain since 2015.
Among other things, they discovered the remains of a cult building and a sacrificial site, along with valuable votive offerings such as jewellery or coins. These finds are exceptional in the context of Styria and can now be seen by visitors as part of a special exhibition until 4 July 2024 at UniGraz@Museum Graz.
The University Museums team of the University of Graz is looking forward to your visit!
