The discipline of general museology examines the relationship of people to their historical and contemporary environment, focusing precisely on how and which everyday objects are relevant and selected to be preserved, researched and communicated for the future.
In February 2002, the University of Graz awarded Friedrich Waidacher a teaching and examination qualification as Honorary Professor of General Museology at the Department of History. This is the first professorship for museology at a German-speaking university.
